A Good Time

From Meg's Mother's Kitchen
Our Thanksgiving dinner was a success although not cooking in my own kitchen takes a bit of planing.  Fortunately I kind of know Mom's kitchen so I knew that she at least had a kitchen sink... Of course there were a few bumps in the road - aren't there always?  First I discovered that since Mom no longer cooks she has not restocked her spices so I had to have our son bring some that I did not bring with me (note to self for next year...)  And I discovered that Mom had 2 inches of aluminum foil - not nearly enough to cover the 2 potato dishes (hasselback white and sweet) so I improvised lids.  Instead of getting blue cheese for the salad I bought a soft, mild cheese - it worked OK but was not what I had in mind for the spinach, dried cranberry and hazelnut salad.  But, all in all, each dish received rave reviews.

OK, I have just spent a lot of time trying to upload a picture of our beautiful meal and am giving up in frustration.  Imagine, if you will, a plate piled high with succulent turkey, thinly sliced white and sweet potatoes baked it a cream and cheese sauce, sweet and savory dressing, cranberry and apple chutney nessled next to Brussel sprouts sautéd with bacon. Followed by homemade vanilla ice cream atop apples and cranberry pie filling.

There were seven of us ranging from 95 to 35 and it was good - food, company and conversation.
